Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) Centre for Studies on Technological Risk (CERTEC)

The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) is very active in research, specially applied research. Its participation in the RISKCYCLE Coordination Action will be through the Centre for Studies on Technological Risk (CERTEC). CERTEC is a research centre where fifteen persons (professors, researchers, PhD students) work in the analysis of the various aspects of major accidents and some natural risks. They are also active in postgraduate education in the field of risk analysis and environmental impact and maintain an intense collaboration with research centres from other countries.

CERTEC works in research projects developed for enterprises, for the Catalan and Spanish administration and for the European Commission. The main research lines are the following ones:

• Effects and consequences of hydrocarbon fires
• The phenomenon of BLEVE explosions
• Identification of hazards
• Risk analysis in the transportation of hazardous materials
• Evaluation of frequencies and probabilities
